GTA 6 Fans Resurface Old Rockstar Quote On Why It Stays Quiet

A years-old Rockstar Games statement is making the rounds on r/GTA6, with fans citing it as the studio's own explanation for why it keeps quiet for long stretches at a time — a pattern playing out again ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6's November 19, 2026 release.

The quote comes from Asked & Answered, a recurring Q&A series on the Rockstar Newswire where the studio replies to fan questions submitted through its old "Mouthoff" feature. This particular answer dates back to 2012, addressing frustration over the slow drip of assets for Grand Theft Auto V — not GTA 6.

As we have said before, we have often had long gaps between asset releases on previous games and will continue to do so in the future. We are sorry if you find this frustrating, but please understand, we don't do this because we 'don't care about our fans' 'don't respect our fans' 'hate GTA fans etc' – precisely the opposite! We do it because we want to make sure we only release 100% correct information, and because we want to keep plenty back for the actual game release so there are still lots of surprises when you play it. The only things we care about are that you enjoy the experience of actually playing the game and that we release accurate information. We just have not been in a position to show more of the game than the trailer and will not be for a while yet. We did, however, manage to sneak a quick screenshot out for you... it's not much, but we thought it was pretty fun.

What Rockstar actually said, and when

At the time, GTA V had only shown its debut trailer, and the "quick screenshot" the post references was a single GTA V image Rockstar tacked on as a goodwill gesture. Nothing in the original quote mentions GTA 6. But the underlying philosophy — silence over speculation, surprises over spoilers — lines up with how Rockstar has handled GTA 6's own rollout so far: a first trailer in December 2023, a second in May 2025, and no gameplay footage since.

Why Rockstar can afford to stay quiet

GTA 6 is arguably the most-anticipated game ever made, and Rockstar's silence hasn't dented that. Both trailers set YouTube premiere records, and pre-orders — live since June 25, 2026 at $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition — have moved without any fresh marketing push behind them. Take-Two told investors on its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call in May 2026 that its entire fiscal 2027 guidance is built around the November 19 launch. Unlike smaller studios that need a steady drip of news to stay in the conversation, GTA 6 stays there on its own, which gives Rockstar room to withhold details without risking the game's momentum.

Does the silence mean GTA 6 needs the extra time?

That's the question fans keep circling back to. GTA 6 has already slipped twice — first out of a fall 2025 window, then off a May 26, 2026 date — with Rockstar citing additional polish both times. If the studio's 2012 stance still holds, that it won't share information unless it's "100% correct," the lack of new gameplay since May 2025 could mean some details simply aren't locked yet. It could just as easily mean nothing: Rockstar marketed GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 the same tight-lipped way and both shipped on their final dates. Take-Two reaffirmed November 19 as recently as its May 21, 2026 earnings call, which cuts against reading the quiet as a warning sign.

For now, November 19, 2026 remains the official date, and nothing from Rockstar suggests otherwise. The next real signal to watch for is a new Newswire post — or a third trailer, which fans have been expecting for months without any confirmation from Rockstar.
